Enduring sustainability

Every good product begins by trying to solve a problem. We think ergonomic office chairs are often unnecessarily complicated. Having lots of good functions and settings is of no benefit if the person using the chair doesn’t know how to use it to achieve a good sitting position. At Savo, that’s what we want to avoid.

Our chairs are all about ergonomics from the very first second, and make sitting comfortably the simplest thing in the world. Our guiding principle is always “People first”, and that’s reflected in all of our products. Through intuitive design, efficient construction and sustainable materials, we offer chairs with world-class quality. Everything to help you sit as comfortably as possible, throughout the working day.

Reduce, reuse and recover

At Savo, we constantly strive to reduce our environmental impact by using materials, energy and resources in an effective and climate-smart way. As one stage in our overall sustainability process, the chair consists of 68% recycled material.

Renewable materials

Savo 360 consists of 26% wood, an unusually high proportion for an office chair. The wooden components reduce CO2 emissions by 24% compared to using virgin plastic. The wood is FSC® certified*, which means it comes from responsibly produced forests.
*FSC licence number FSC-C009111

Slim design

The chair’s slim design and bare-essential functions reduce the material required for manufacture. Due to its practical size, it takes up less space during transport than many other classic office chairs.

Less plastic

Less has never meant more! Less than 5% of the chair is plastic, where the parts are tool-based, reducing waste to 2% in production.

Layer by layer

The circular, layer-by-layer design means all parts are separable and reparable, making it possible to update the chair over time and recycle its materials.

Certified by Möbelfakta, FSC

Savo 360 is certified by Möbelfakta, showing that it was sustainably produced in terms of quality, the environment and social conditions. Its raw materials, such as wood, padding, textiles, plastics and chemicals, all meet tough environmental standards.

White office chairs

White is always fashionable, goes well with everything and is a safe card to play at home or in the office. Work with a pale colour scheme for the entire workplace, or choose white chairs and combine them with vibrant colours. With all the options in our palette, choosing white is easy!

Furnish with white office chairs

White is stylish, sophisticated, neutral, timeless, calming and harmonious; it captures and reflects light. White office chairs harmonise with pale floors, white walls, desks and cabinets. White chairs are also striking in a décor with colourful walls, carpets or curtains. Pale meeting rooms with colourful chairs are not particularly unusual, so why not turn things around and let the walls take care of the colour and choose white meeting chairs? Our best-selling Soul is available in white from top to bottom, with a white mesh back and a 5-star base with white universal casters. The seat can also be fitted with optional white armrests and headrest. Choose a light grey or beige seat cover to follow the pale theme or a seat in a stronger colour to create contrast.

The Invite meeting chair is available in a polished, black and also white version. With a 5-star base and polished aluminium and a white mesh back, Invite looks slender in the conference room or next to a desk. White is always right.

Story

Furnishing activity-based workspaces.

When furnishing activity-based work settings, furniture must be well thought-out and flexible as employees choose workspaces according to activities, such as working at desks, in meeting rooms, touch-down areas and project locations. Create distinct zones with seating that lends itself to highly focused work, creative work and teamwork.

Furnish with flexible furniture such as height-adjustable desks, highboy tables, acoustic screens and chairs that can be comfortably used all day long or for short periods. Combine seats equipped with casters, armrests and headrests with simpler seats without armrests for workstations and places for impromptu meetings and debriefs. When people switch locations during the day, seat height, seat depth and back height must enable quick and easy adjustment to suit personal needs.

Comfortable office chairs for longer and shorter spells

Savo Soul, Savo S3 and Savo Maxikon are three chairs suitable for use over long periods where the need for support and strain relief is greatest. All of the seats can be equipped with armrests and headrests, and their intuitive design and logical adjustment mechanisms allow anyone to use the seats all the workday long.

Savo EOS, Savo Invite and Savo Studio with designs that are a little simpler are better suited for short assignments, impromptu tasks and for seating during work meetings. The Savo Joi stool stimulates active sitting in its roles as seating for desks and standing desks.

Story

Choosing the right office chair

Whether the chair will be for the home office or an activity-based workplace, it can be difficult to navigate through the assortment of office chairs. A chair is part of the décor, and many people want one that both looks good and is comfortable to sit in for long periods. We’ve put together some questions whose answers may help you find the perfect chair or chairs.

Checklista:

  • Activity-based office or fixed workstations?
  • Will it be used for long or short periods?
  • Is it a personal chair or will it be shared by several people?
  • What kind of support is needed?
  • Just a few settings or the ability to adjust the seat in many ways?
  • Casters or 5-star base with glides?
  • Upholstery in fabric, leather or mesh?
  • Casters for hard or soft floors?

The right chair for the working environment

How and where a chair will be used influences the choice of chair. Chairs that stimulate active sitting and movement during meetings are suitable for the conference room. Chairs with armrests can be a good choice for the meeting room. If you work for many hours at a desk with a computer, you need a work chair that can cope with 8–9 hours sitting.

Adjusting the chair

Select a chair that allows you to change position regularly, as the body reacts automatically to long periods of static sitting. The office chair must be easy to adjust to vary the sitting position. Every person is unique and should have a chair that provides good support where needed and which can be adjusted to suit the person’s height, weight and body size. An office chair can have more than 10 different settings, but the most important are seat height, seat depth and back height. At Savo, we feel the best settings on the chair are the ones people actually use.

Use armrests to prevent strain injuries

Whether or not your chair needs armrests depends on whether you work with your arms resting on your desk or on your armrests. Remember to locate the keyboard and mouse such that you can support your hands and arms on the desk if you do not have armrests. If you choose a chair with armrests, fixed armrests may be enough, but adjustable or multi-functional variants are a good choice if you want to adjust and tilt the armrests. Height-adjustable armrests with a glide-back function allows the occupant to slide the armrests backwards as necessary.

Sit more comfortably with the right seat and support for your back and lumbar region

A good office chair provides good resistance and support for both back and lumbar region. Strain injuries are one of the most common causes of reportable occupational illnesses, and unsuitable working positions are a common cause. A good chair prevents strain injuries and fatigue that can be caused by sitting in the same chair for several hours. To prevent back strain from becoming worse, the seat should provide good full back support and have adjustable lumbar support. Seat comfort should be so high that you are unaware of the base when sitting in the chair. A seat that can tilt forward makes it easier to adjust sitting during the day.

Move freely with swivel stand and casters

Many office chairs have swivel stands with casters that assist your back musculature and make it easy to turn to reach something on your desk, for example. Will the chair be on a plastic, wooden, carpeted or concrete floor or tiles? This influences the choice of suitable casters. Savo has braked and decompression braked casters for hard floors and non-braked casters for soft floors.

Chair upholstery is more than mere aesthetics

While upholstery is a major part of a chair’s visual expression, it is also important for comfort. The fabric should be durable enough to withstand 8 hours sitting. A mesh fabric back is a good choice for preventing the chair from becoming too hot or uncomfortable after many hours seated. In some environments with high hygiene standards, it is necessary to use chairs in e.g. integral skin foam that can be wiped off. Leather is easy to clean, but fabric upholstery can feel cooler.

A stool for the office and home

Savo Joi might not be the office chair you first thought of, it is the chair you need. The idea behind Savo Joi was to create a stool that lets you sit the way you like while allowing free movement in every direction.

An ergonomic stool for the office and home office

The joystick mechanism in the stand means the muscles in your back and body are stimulated while you sit. The feeling is akin to sitting and balancing on a pilates ball. So Savo Joi is perfect for anyone who wants to vary standing with balanced sitting to take the strain off of their back. The intuitive design with adjustable seat height makes it suitable for workplaces where different people use the same chair throughout the day. The stool is also small and simple, making it easy to move around for use as extra seating for a desk or meeting room. You can use the stool at the office or in the home.

Savo Joi in your design

Savo Joi comes in high and low versions, and the fully upholstered seat and flat metal base combine to form a stylish design. The version with the flat metal base is known as Savo Joi Studio, and is also available in a version with a 5-star base and casters. Browse and choose from our range of colours and seat materials to create a colourful or sober impression. A black stand and black leather seat are elegantly monochrome, while a light grey metal base and a colourful seat will brighten up the atmosphere in any room. Upholster the seat in one of our many standard colours or let it inspire you and have the seat upholstered in any colour you like!

Story

Savo Soul – The easy choice

If you’re finding it hard to choose an office chair, Savo Soul is the way to go, it has everything a chair should have. KG Arvidsson, Head of Savo, answers some FAQs about our best seller.

What was the idea behind Savo Soul?

When we developed Savo Soul, we sought to create a chair that would be used and loved by as many people as possible. It was also important for the chair to be suitable for the activity-based office, where a single chair has multiple users. The result was a chair that meets many different needs and can be used in most settings and for most types of work. We knew there were lots of good chairs on the market, but they usually had many buttons and levers, and the more controls a chair has the fewer people use, which is why Savo Soul does not have many.

Why is it called Savo Soul?

When designer Olle Lundberg and I were thinking about a name, we wanted to call it ‘Yep’ as its response to every requirement was yes. But in the end we realised the chair symbolised our Beyond Ergonomics philosophy, which expressed the soul of Savo. That led us to choose Savo Soul as its name.

KG Arvidsson: head of Savo

What adjustment settings does the chair have?

We wanted to make a chair that could do everything, but reduce the number of decisions its user has to make. While users all have different sizes in clothes, they have to use one and the same chair, so its most important basic settings need to be easy to adjust. It’s easy to adjust the most important settings – seat height, seat depth and back height – while seated. Savo Soul has an automatic backrest resistance setting that can be fine-tuned.

What does automatic seat back resistance adjustment mean?

The most important function of a work chair is to facilitate user movement. Sitting in a chair with the wrong resistance is often a bad experience, so the chair gets locked and movement is impaired. Savo Soul solves this problem by adjusting back resistance to the weight of the person, which means it suits its occupants well the very first time they sit in it. The more the occupant weighs, the more resistance the seat applies. This makes Savo Soul ideal for any weight, as it also allows manual adjustment of the resistance.

Why is Savo Soul fitted with Flexi-back?

The main problem with sitting too much is the tendency to cause back problems. Flexi-back allows the seat back to automatically follow the user’s back movements; even if the user twists to the right or left, the seat back will follow. Optimal support and relief in every position means a healthier back!

Why should I choose a mesh back for Savo Soul?

Mesh follows the curvature of the user’s spine and provides good support without having to raise the back. Ideally suited to activity-based offices. The mesh fabric’s characteristics make the back elegant and breathable, and help it blend in well in most settings. As pioneers of quality mesh chairs, mesh is something we are particularly proud of!

Can armrests and headrest be retrofitted?

If you order a chair without armrests and sit in it for a couple of months, and then want armrests for it, you can order them. Available in three different versions, 2D, 4D and 4Dplus, the armrests are easily retrofitted. The headrest, which is adjustable in height and depth, is also easy to retrofit.

Will the chair fit our personnel, who have very different requirements for size and seat height?

We have three different sizes: 40, 50 and 60 on the upholstered backs, and we also have a mesh back in the same height as the upholstered size 50 back. In the case of seat height,
the standard height fits most people, but it’s easy to switch to a lower or higher pedestal to meet other needs. There is also a version with a high gas spring and footring suitable for high seating.

Is there a choice of seats?

Yes! Because some people prefer a soft seat and others want something a little firmer, Savo Soul is available with three different seats – soft, medium and narrow, regardless of back size. What’s more, they’re easy to replace if the existing seat is damaged or worn, making the seat design flexible and eco-friendly. The soft seat is most popular and the one I like most myself; also, it goes best with the mesh back.

What other options are available for the chair?

There are also several ways to adapt the seat to suit most aesthetic requirements. The choice of fabrics is practically unlimited in terms of both quality and design, as well as hygiene requirements. The chair is available in a white edition, and there is also a choice of black, grey or polished 5-star base and gas spring. My favourite is white with the soft seat and 4D armrest!

Are there casters for different types of floor?

Yes, for both hard and soft floors, as well as compression casters that lock under load.

How long will a Savo Soul last?

A long while! Savo Soul has a 10-year warranty, but they have a history of lasting longer. Also, the entire Savo Soul family is certified under the Möbelfakta labelling system. It’s more than a guarantee of product liability; the chair must meet strict environmental standards to receive Möbelfakta certification.

Chairs for social spaces, quiet zones and small meeting rooms

Lounges, lobbies, group rooms and communal areas at the office are at least as important for productivity as workstations and meeting rooms. Furnish flexible spaces, temporary workstations, project sites and small meeting rooms with furniture that supports activity-based work.

Areas set aside for collaboration and breaks allow colleagues to hold spontaneous meetings and share ideas over a cup of coffee. Tallboy tables and height-adjustable tables and office chairs are ideal in these types of settings. Savo Soul, Savo Studio and Savo Invite are just three of the chairs we have available with optional footrings and high seat heights. Make the most of small meeting rooms, odd corners and nondescript spaces at the office by using chairs with casters alongside smaller desks or tallboy tables. It can sometimes be difficult to work in cramped or noisy places, so each workplace should have rooms or spaces designed for quiet work. Quiet zones for highly focused work need not be completely separated from the rest of the office, but could be a group room or a screened-off area with an acoustic booth or a screen wall.

The heart and soul of Savo Soul

If you’re looking to buy an office chair that goes perfectly with your workplace or home office, Savo Soul is your go-to choice. It’s not hard to understand why it’s our best-selling product. In fact, most things are easy to understand in the case of Savo Soul.

A work chair with little need for adjustment.

In Savo Soul, we’ve created an ergonomic chair that not only meets today’s demands but also those of tomorrow. The challenge was to create an office chair with maximum comfort suitable as a personal chair, as well as a chair for activity-based workplaces where many different people use a single chair. The chair is built using the most advanced technology but designed to be simple for anyone using it. Thus the heart and soul of Savo Soul are its simplicity and great comfort. It’s easy to adjust the very important seat height, seat depth and back height settings while seated. The automatic adjustment of backrest and flexi-back resistance even follows the body’s lateral movements. Its exceptional design with few controls makes Savo Soul one of the most user-friendly chairs on the market.

‘Tomorrow’s office chair should work a bit like a smartphone. It should be intuitive, easy to use and suit everyone. And it must have feeling. That was our starting point with Savo Soul. Simplicity was our guiding principle all the way, and while ergonomics and quality were given top priority, we made sure not to lose Savo’s soul. A real challenge, whose outcome I look upon with pride today!’

Olle Lundberg, designer Savo Soul

SAVO innovations

SAVO’s vision is to offer the best sitting experience through innovative office chairs with intuitive designs. A vision that is confirmed by innovations that constantly drive us forward.

1990
SAVO launches a new way of sitting

When SAVO launched its unique SAVO Floating Tilt® seat concept, it was a totally new solution for extended sitting comfort. SAVO Floating Tilt® facilitates and stimulates movement and provides support where and when needed. Generation 5, the multi-dynamic seat system became reality. Savo’s status as a trendsetter was confirmed when other suppliers launched chair models with a Free Float mechanism.

1995
Timeless design with SAVO Studio 32

SAVO Studio is a small office chair developed more than 30 years ago that has been upgraded to suit a modern, intuitive sitting. A high-quality chair with a timeless design ideal for the activity-based office and short stints of sitting, especially in the home office. An innovation that has stood the test of time and can now be classed as an icon.

2014
The success of SAVO Soul

SAVO Soul was a success as activity-based workplaces made their break through and there was a need for office chairs that easily adapt to the current occupant. SAVO Soul is intuitive; it automatically follows the body’s movements and its simplicity is its strength. The most important settings, seat height, seat depth and back height, can be quickly adapted to suit one or more users and are easily reached while sitting.

The chair’s unique flexi-back automatically follows back movements. SAVO Soul was also developed with a mesh back that provides optimal support in every position.

2017
SAVO Joi with the body in motion

SAVO Joi is a stool with a joystick function and was an utterly new kind of ergonomic innovation when it was launched in 2017. The stool encourages active sitting thanks to the mechanism in the stand that allows the user to move through 360 degrees. The feeling is akin to sitting and balancing on a pilates ball, which stimulates back musculature. Our starting point was to work with the body in motion and how to optimise sitting. Today there are many imitations of SAVO Joi, a recognition of just how good the product is and how great a pioneer SAVO is in its field.
